Book Launch at Book Soup – August 8th, 2008

This exciting Gala Event opened up with emcee and adult film historian, Bill Margold, who read the book’s foreward, “Hardcore Martyr” before introducing guest speakers, directors Cass Paley and Bob Chinn, to say a few words about John Holmes and the work of Sugar and Nelson. Before reading from the new book, hailed by critics as a comprehensive, definitive biography of The King of Porn, Sugar read a letter from Seka, which introduced the final guest speaker, Laurie Holmes.
Ms. Holmes had appeared on the “Night Calls” show on Playboy Radio the previous evening and endorsed the new biography about her late husband. She told the attending audience at Book Soup that John Holmes: A Life Measured in Inches “is a refreshing and thorough account of John Holmes’ life” and praised the authors for recognizing Holmes as a multi-faceted person.
Sugar and Nelson read book excerpts, followed by a Q&A, before signing books for guests, friends and fans. Cake and wine was served.
Other special guests who attended the book launch and/or the screening of the Holmes’ classic film, Eruption, at the Silent Movie Theater that evening, were Holmes’ friends and photographers, Joel Sussman and Kenji, former director and girlfriend, Julia St. Vincent, directors, Mark Novick and Alan Colberg, Holmes’ former co-stars, Rhonda Jo Petty, Ron Jeremy and Don Fernando, former L.A.P.D. homicide detective, Frank Tomlinson, psychologist, Dr. Vonda Pelto, and various members of the media.
